About

My nickname is K2.  It’s a long story.  At the time I created my former web site k2k9.com (now travelingdoglady.com), I had two dogs, Hobie and Hector, and had just lost our elderly Timba (18 years) about a year before.  We thought it would be cute to use my nickname and “k9” like the police use for their canine units, and make a catchy name for my web site, photos, and musings. Someone started using the term k2k9 on websites that I didn’t want any affiliation with, so I changed the name of our site to Traveling Dog Lady.  People still call me K2, though.  Here’s the story of Cooper:

In 2011, Hector left us very suddenly and unexpectedly.  It broke our hearts.  Hobie, who had been with me alone after Timba’s passing, was now with me alone again.  Both times, we spent five months together, with Hobie as “lone dog”.

In January of 2012, I wasn’t really looking, but I was looking online, and saw this little puppy Charlie Brown listed on a local Petfinder site.  We decided to adopt Charlie Brown.

Six months later, in July, we found out that Charlie’s littermate, Cooper, was returned to the rescue agency with a severely injured leg, and no hope of saving the leg — it would have to be amputated.  After a somewhat long wait, Cooper joined our pack in August of 2012.

This is our family’s first experience with a three-dog pack (and I might mention we also have three cats!); and my first experience with a Tripawd dog (although my spouse has known a few Tripawd dogs and cats in the past).

We are thrilled to add Cooper’s journey to our growing repertoire of dog and cat stories.

Now, if only we can maintain all these blogs!

Footnote:  In April of 2015, we said goodbye to our beloved Shepherd mix, Hobie.  We know he’s with Hector and their “dog father”, Gil, and that the three of them are watching over the six of us (me, Charlie, Cooper and the three cats).
